1770 Tourism Town of the Year

Zephyr Studios’ brand film directed by award winning storyteller Stuart McKay casts Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy as undisputed stars of Queensland’s Discovery Coast. Against a backdrop of sun bleached headlands and crystalline waters, the film weaves together soaring drone vistas, intimate seaside moments and authentic local voices to showcase why this coastal haven was crowned QTIC’s Small Tourism Town of the Year.

From the gentle surf at Agnes Water to the heritage rich streets of 1770, each frame celebrates a community long known as a hidden gem among travellers. Mayor Matt Burnett’s pride shines through in candid interviews, where he credits the tireless advocacy of Gladstone Area Promotion and Development Ltd and Discovery Coast Tourism and Commerce for putting the region firmly on the map. Viewers are invited to explore a tapestry of experiences, stand up paddleboarding at dawn, guided bushwalks through paperbark wetlands, beachfront festivals beneath a rose gold sky, all brought to life by Stuart’s signature blend of cinematic poetry and grounded authenticity.

By highlighting eco tours and artisanal dining, stargazing on secluded headlands and more, Zephyr Studios not only commemorates an honour well deserved but extends a heartfelt invitation to discover the magic of Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy for yourself. Here each sunrise feels like a premiere and every guest becomes part of the story.
